LPD and power points

Anyone find it strange that with all the talk of the LPD being weak this year in football that only 2 teams in Region D (outside of the LPD) in either Division has a higher rating than the 4th place team in the LPD?? Kinda ironic if ya ask me.

I think the region as a whole is way down but the LPD is the best within the region.

everybody always says the region is down or the lpd is down. except the year's they happened to play. that was when football was at its best.

There is no debate that the present day LPD and Region as a whole don't even touch the levels of play from the beginning of division play in 86 until the late 90's. But, considering the bashing that we, myself included, give the district on here I just thought the ratings were interesting.

i disagree. the teams of today could beat the teams of the 80s and 90s with the exception of maybe powell valley with the jones's. take away them and today's best teams could beat yesterday's best teams.

hahaha...ok. The LPD hasn't put a team on the field in a decade that could compete outside of the 03 GC team...and they'd hang close for a while. The Coeburn teams from 89-91 would wipe the floor with the recent "elite" LPD teams. To think otherwise is asinine.

I have to agree with sup-rbeast. I can speak for some JIB teams because that is my school and I have watched them play for over 20 years. Some of Burton's best teams came in the late 80's and mid to late 90's even over some of the todays teams. The district as a whole was much tougher than it is today. Normally no matter who you played you would have a fight on your hands.

It is hard to compare teams from different decades to each other because of the sytle of play, difference in attitudes of athletes, etc. Kids didn't leave games for broken fingers, separated shoulders, or broken jaws back then, they had to be taken off by a cart to not play. If a kid today separates a shoulder or breaks a finger you can bet they will be out 4-6 weeks. So trying to compare would be unfair and hard to do but as far as overall play, the 80's and 90's couldn't be beat.

One of the best Burton teams I think I have seen is the 96 Burton team. They had a stellar D that only allowed 1 passing TD all year and gave up single digit PPG. They were solid on O, D, and Special Teams. Like I said, I can only really compare JIB teams because that is who I follow. And this wasn't near when I played so that is not my bias.

in the early- mid 80's through 87 the best we did was 4-6 and never made the playoffs. 88 started to turn around with a new coach and 89 was was a good year(I think) I think it was 1990 before we got pretty good.

if it wasnt for coach larges dumbass we could have won state in 96.
